Margaret and Mel off to walk the Ridgeway

I call myself Autumn Chicken because in my middle 60s I’m no Spring Chicken. Last year my partner, Mel Harris, and I raised £680 for Arts Together when we walked the Thames Path. We managed 184 miles in 2 weeks though we’d never done anything like this in our lives before.

This year at the end of May we are going to walk the Ridgeway National Path and are hoping to raise at least another £400 for Arts Together, my favourite small charity. The path is 87 miles from Marlborough to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire and we will do it in 8 days, stopping at B&Bs each night. It will be much more strenuous than last year with many more steep slopes and covering over 13 miles some days.

I feel very fortunate to have a comfortable home a wide circle of family and friends and lots to do, but I’ve seen how rapidly older people’s quality of life can deteriorate once their health begins to fail and they become housebound. That’s why Arts Together is so important because they not only offer exciting and varied arts projects but also do everything they can to help members attend, whatever their disability.

I have seen how Arts Together transforms the lives of frail elderly people.  The work they produce is amazing, yet for some it’s the only time they leave the house each week. Take a look at their website, see the fabulous work they produce and I hope you will sponsor me as generously as you can. You can make your donation through the Localgiving website
